When I first arrived here at Adventures in Missions back in September I was placed in the admissions department for my apprenticeship. I’m not going to lie, my initial thoughts were, ‘Are you serious, and, is this really happening?’ I had good reason for it too.
A few years ago, at my previous job, I was recruited to work for the admissions department because they admired my people skills and wanted me to utilize them in that area. I helped out and started calling people in an office a few days a week and it was going alright. There was a script that I had to follow and I thought I was doing pretty well when one of the managers came and took the call list away from me one day and told me it was a really important list of people to call so she would just do it. Talk about a blow to my ego.
From that day on, I knew working in an office was not at all for me, especially if it included me having to talk on the phone with people. NOT MY SKILL SET..or so I thought.
When I found out that my apprenticeship would be in the admissions department here at Adventures, talking on the phone with people, you can imagine that I did not have a very good reaction to it.
I talked about it with some friends and house mates who had encouraged me to talk to the people who placed us in our apprenticeships. I was told a lot of times that I could have some say in where I spend my time while I am here, which I appreciated so much. But I decided to sit with the Lord on this one and see what He thought.
I started my apprenticeship and let Him speak to me through my time and before I knew it I was loving the department I work in. Everyone is so fun and enjoyable to work with and I started to see that He was shaping me and growing me in an area that I just wasn’t comfortable with yet. I have loved being able to talk to people over the phone about joining the World Race and Adventures in Missions in other trips we offer, and after a while I realized how my eagerness steer people towards the Race lined up with working in the admissions department perfectly.
How am I doing now with it?
Adventures in Missions had opened up a position in the admissions department. I prayed about it and felt God calling me to apply for the job and guess what? I was hired!
After CGA is over I will officially be coming on staff with Adventures in Missions as a Mobilizer for World Race Gap Year and Passport programs.
Sometimes God wants to push us into uncomfortable situations and areas just to we can grow and see the great things He has for us. I am so excited for my next season to come and am so glad the Lord has taken me on this amazing journey so far!
